This guide covers Warzone, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 on Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox app - the steps are identical on every launcher, because you configure Windows, not the game. People search per-launcher, but the setup is one and the same.
You'll need a Lobby Max account with Activate already clicked and both DNS addresses copied. New to Lobby Max? Start with the Getting Started guide first.
⚠️ Important: Activation registers your network, not your device. Set this PC up on the same internet connection you activated from - not a mobile hotspot, not a different Wi-Fi.
Get Your DNS Addresses
Open the Lobby Max dashboard and find the Set up your gaming device card. It shows your Primary DNS and Secondary DNS with Copy buttons next to each.
- Hit the Copy buttons - a single mistyped digit is the most common way this fails
- You can also pick a region under Choose your server now; you can change it later without touching Windows again
Keep the dashboard open - you'll want both addresses for the next steps.
Set DNS on Windows 11
Settings (Win+I) → Network & internet → Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
On Wi-Fi, click the network name first, then:
- Click Hardware properties
- Find DNS server assignment and click Edit
- Change Automatic (DHCP) to Manual
- Toggle IPv4 to On
- Preferred DNS = your Primary DNS address
- Alternate DNS = your Secondary DNS address
- Set both DNS-over-HTTPS dropdowns to Off
- Click Save
⚠️ Important: Leave DNS over HTTPS off. If Windows encrypts its DNS queries to a different provider, they never reach our servers and nothing will change - while everything looks correctly configured.
Set DNS on Windows 10
Win+R → type ncpa.cpl → Enter.
- Right-click your active adapter (the one with the green bars) → Properties
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Properties
- Choose "Use the following DNS server addresses"
- Preferred DNS server = your Primary DNS address
- Alternate DNS server = your Secondary DNS address
- Tick "Validate settings upon exit"
- OK → Close
This ncpa.cpl method also works on Windows 11 and is more reliable across builds, so use it there too if the Settings path gives you trouble.
Disable IPv6 on the Adapter
Back in the adapter's Properties window:
- Find Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
- Untick it
- OK
⚠️ Important: Some ISPs force IPv6. If your PC resolves over IPv6 it uses the ISP's resolver and we never see the query - everything looks correct and nothing changes. This is the top cause of silent failure, and it's skipped constantly. Untick it.
Restart and Clear the DNS Cache
Restart your PC to clear the DNS cache - this step matters.
In a hurry? Open an administrator Command Prompt and run:
ipconfig /flushdns
Either way, a fresh game launch picks up the new settings. If you skip the restart and nothing changes, come back to this step before anything else.
Verify Your Connection
Back in the Lobby Max dashboard:
- Your connection should show Active
- Your chosen server should show Connected
Then launch the game and confirm the matchmaker sees your chosen region. The definitive check is the in-game location readout - see Check Your Location for the exact steps.
Troubleshooting
Nothing changed in game? Work back through the steps: wrong adapter configured (did both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, or only the one you use?), IPv6 still ticked, DNS over HTTPS still on, or no restart after saving.
Both Wi-Fi and Ethernet present? DNS settings are per-adapter. Configure both, or disable the one you don't use - otherwise that connection silently stays on ISP DNS.
Internet stopped working? Almost always a typo. Re-copy both addresses from the dashboard, or set DNS back to Automatic to restore internet, then re-enter carefully.
Worked yesterday, not today? Your network likely changed - router reboot, ISP reassignment, or a different Wi-Fi. Open the dashboard and click Re-activate. One click, and your existing device settings stay valid.
